From the series files: the same indexes and notes the books are made from.
How the figures are made
The figures of the books are not drawn by hand: a program draws them, the figure generator, which runs the example programs and collects their results.
- Terminals show the program's real output, run on the spot: the numbers in the figure are those the reader sees on their own terminal.
- Plots read the CSV files the program writes with
dati: the book's curve is the program's. - Annotated code takes the real lines of the source between two chosen points and adds the notes next to them.
- Windows are the real views of the windowed programs, drawn off-screen.
If a program changes, its figure changes with it: the book cannot show one number while the program prints another.
The figures are printed at 300 dpi or more and are at least 2400 pixels wide, so the text inside the plots and the code read sharp on paper too. In the e-book they are reduced to 1600 pixels; on this site to 1400.
